If you had faith in god above but can't stop drinkin' you try non-faith. If you want people stop do illegal drugs with 13,14,15... lower legal drinking age (maybe just soft drinks, coke & beer) to 16.

Penn & Teller, WTF is this??? Why would you be promoting non-faith alternatives to healing? ....I was surprised.Well I see a list of other anti-bible vlogs...I guess you are FOR spending time on negativism, atheism. That's alright, its food for thought, well-presented, but when someone is a public figure they should be careful how they share woth others. Paul Newman was a great philanthropist- but what are you? Have a good life- you're dancing sucked on Dancing with the Stars

I agree. However willpower is not strong enough. Medication is not the quick fix, you take a pill and you lose 30 lbs, it's not always true. Sometimes it can work just like that, like contraception pills, or modiodal _treats daytime sleepness_But preventing being pregnant and avoiding drinking is not the same.

In this country we take a pill for everything! ADD, Alcoholism, even road rage. I realize people need help, but medicating is NOT the answer!

Telethon who are you trying to bullshit? There is a big difference between being A RELIGION and being RELIGIOUS. These same courts have also ruled that the Boy Scouts are RELIGIOUS IN NATURE. The US Constitution is RELIGIOUS IN NATURE and so is the US Congress and The Supreme Court. US currency is RELIGIOUS IN NATURE. "in God we trust". Who gives a fuck.

My view is, the "gentleman" is a half drunk, ex-alcoholics should forget everything about drinking habits and start from scratch - learn to stop safe at BAC 0.07 like teenagers.

and the big book was written in the 1930s. the majority of people back then had a different view on things. you can interpret it anyway you want. apparently you like to interpret things literally. the whole program is for the individual and it suggests that you be "open minded". atheists are just bitter i guess. every group ive gone to thats not 12 step is all 12 step bashing and nothing about recovery.
lelanddupuy (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
it's a god or higher power of your understanding. if you were open minded enough you could actually let the concept help you. let people worship what they want and you can do whatever you want. no one forces you to do anything there. if you actually read the big book you would have read god as being Good Orderly Direction
telethon123 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Spare me, I've read the Big Book. God is referenced in 6 of the steps, and the "Chapter to the Agnostic" is simply an ant-atheist rant with the goal of talking agnostics into becoming theists. The Big Book refers to a very specific God. This God is male, singular, omnipotent, omniscient, desirous, benevolent and in communion with the stepper. It is far from some generic "higher power". This diety is prayed to and worshiped at every AA meeting. Grab a dictionary and look up "religion".
lelanddupuy (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
i don't think people should be forced to go there. that's pointless. but it is not a religious program. i'm athiest and i go and everything is fine. i'm not forced to believe anything. i believe what i want and if someone claims that shit against AA they are some insecure people. AA is not a religion. Spirituality is PERSONAL Religion is PUBLIC. don't show me what a liberal judge said. tell me YOUR point. the program is about the individual getting what they want. it's all SUGGESTED NOT FORCED
